We Miss You Grandpa!

Today marks a year since my step father and Lukas's grandpa passed away from cancer.  He was such a great man!  We all loved him for the sweet, silly, and loving guy he was.  I wish he could be here to play with Lukas and see the wonder and excitement in Lukas's eyes as he explores the world.  I know he sees from heaven, but we all miss him so much and just wish he was here!

We love you Brett and you will forever be missed!

To Sippy Cup or Not to Sippy Cup...that is the question.

My Lukas is very attached to his sippy cups.  I feel he is old enough to move on to big boy cups.  However, when I tried to switch him lately I feel that I set him up for failure.  Big people cups like we have aren't for little ones and it's easy for him to spill them.  The tossable sippy cups I bought to try to change him over had too big of a rim so he would spill when using it.  Uh!  It's frustrating!

Anyway, I took all the spill proof sippy cups away and replaced them with the Lighting McQueen tossable sippy cups that are more like regular cups.  They aren't spill proof and he needs to pay more attention to them when he drinks them.  However, I think it back fired because he still wants to carry his cup around the house.

Well yesterday I got a call from our daycare lady.  She told me it was the second day in a row he has spilled his cup on the couch and we need to work together to switch him to a regular cup that he drinks in the kitchen or not bring his cup.  She said she would go along with whatever I was wanting to do.

I will have to search for some regular toddler cups without a top.  That way he can help me pick them out and I will give him stuff in that cup to make it more appealing.  Like he loves chocolate milk, but only offer it in the big boy cups instead of the sippy cup.  Then before we leave in the morning let him put it in the fridge if he isn't done with it or put it in the sink.

Maybe after we tackle this sippy cup issue...we can start focusing in on potty training more.  Oh I pray this will work!  He is attached to his cups like he is attached to his "b's" (b's are his blankets.)  I have a feeling his blankets will be much harder to separate from.

One More Book

At bedtime Lukas will always beg for one more book.  We usually read 3 books before bedtime and he always begs for one more book.  Well the other night when we were reading books I told him that we were all done reading books and that it was time to say our bedtime prayer.  He looked at me and said "Momma one more book?"  I said "come on buddy lets do our prayers."  He scooted over to me and gave me a big hug and then he looked right at me and gave me a kiss.  I was a little shocked he did this.  We do hugs and kisses after bedtime prayer.  Well I should have known better, after he gave me that hug and kiss he looked at me and said "one more book?" in a very sweet voice.  I smiled and said, "sure one more book."

Hook, line, and sinker!  That little boy sure knows how to play his cards!  I gave in so easily.  I just couldn't help it.  It was so sweet and I thought what is one more book gonna harm.  Nothing!  However, after we read that 4th book he tried to ask for another and then I held my ground and said "nope, bedtime prayers."  We then did our bedtime prayers, hugs, kisses, and our good nights back and forth.  I walked out of his room thinking someday...far far into the future when he is married and asking his wife for something he will probably get his way like his father does.  Just like Lukas his father can pour on the charm to get what he wants too!  I love them both just the way they are though...I wouldn't change a thing!

Mr. Lukas uses the Computer

I decided to introduce Lukas to the computer last night.  We went to nickjr.com and played games with Team Umizoomi!  He was having a lot of fun!

One frustrating point was how he kept wanting to click with the mouse all the time.  I do understand he is only 2 1/2 years old, but he would put his hand on the mouse and scroll the middle button and click.  If you have ever did this you know that he gets messages that pop up all over the screen when he does this or it goes into scroll mode.

After we got done playing games we did the doodle page.  He had a lot of fun with that too!  He just told me what he wanted me to do, but didn't want to touch the mouse.  I think he got frustrated that I kept telling him not to click the buttons.
All in all I think it was a good first experience.  This weekend I will see how he likes trying Microsoft Word.  I bet he will get a kick out of typing letters and numbers.  ♥

Pudding Happiness!

Lukas is getting better with his spoon, but he still likes to smear it on his face.  As you can see...he likes to do it...a lot!  He does it will pudding, yogurt, and peanut butter.  Must be the cool new 2 year old thing to do.

We were over at my in-law's place for dinner and they gave him pudding for dessert.  His is what he looked like after the pudding.  This is actually pretty clean compared to how he usually looks after eating pudding.  What a silly little pudding monster!

Zoom!

While I cook breakfast, lunch, or dinner most times this is what you will find going on in my kitchen.  Lukas will plop his cars in his dump truck and zoom off with them.  He loves to chase the dog, which I have to continuously tell him to leave alone.  Poor puppies!

He goes around and around the table and then he will smash into something and yell "crash!"  Sometimes he actually crashes into me or the back of my legs.  He will say "opps Mommy, I crash."  "Aww my leg" I scream and he laughs!  He also has a red tractor he races too.  How he loves racing cars!

Fun in the Fall Leaves

Last weekend was warm in our neck of the woods.  I am talking...raking leaves in shorts and a tank top warm!  Strange!  Lukas loved it though.  He loved plopping in the leaves and really enjoying the leaves of fall.

What can I say we both enjoyed the fall leaves and jumping in them!

3 Weeks Sick

My little guy has been sick.  I thought it was just a head cold.  Well I guess it could have just been a head cold at first, but I took him in Monday and bam another ear infection.  He hasn't had an ear infection since April so he went a good six months without one.

The first week I thought his cold was just a simple head cold.  It had gotten cooler outside and we had to turn on our heat.  The second week it got really warm out!  I mean to the point where he was wearing a t-shirt and shorts.  Well when this week rolled around and he still had this annoying cold and his poor little nose was getting sore as the hours went by...I thought I should probably take him into the doctor.

Monday his daycare lady called and said he had a slight fever.  I had already called the doctor and made an appointment for that afternoon.  Well when I took him in you would not even know anything was wrong.  He was his happy hyper self.  The doctor looked at his ears and said "Oh poor boy" and at that point I knew he had an ear infection.  However, not only did he just have one ear infected he had both infected.  He had a double ear infection.  I was blown away.  I couldn't believe he had double ear infection.  He wasn't crabby, he was sleeping good, no fever before today, and he had been eating well too.  As bad as I felt I gotta say I really had no idea he had an ear infection let alone a double ear infection.

I guess as parents we just do the best we can and try to understand the cues our children have if they aren't feeling well.  Sometimes their symptoms don't exactly line up with the 'by the book symptoms' or don't even follow the rule of symptoms they have had in the past.  I am glad I finally took him in.  I felt bad that he has been feeling cruddy for so long, but I guess you just go with your gut and hope for the best.

Little Birdie

My little boy has become a bit of a food begger.  He loves to beg for your food if you are eating something different than he is.  One thing he loves to beg for is Ramen Noodle.
My husband absolutely loves Ramen Noodle and makes it for lunches during the weekend rather often.  The picture above is what you will see if Lukas is around and you have Ramen Noodle.  It's funny when he sees my husband has Ramen Noodle he will scoot his chair close and ask Daddy, "my turn?"  Daddy will laugh and then give him a bite.

I had to work this last weekend and Daddy and Lukas had Ramen Noodle for lunch.  Chris said he had alot of fun trying to eat the Ramen Noodle!  Too funny!

Cuddling on the Couch

Before bedtime every night Lukas and I cuddle.  I started having him relax with me about 15-20 minutes before bedtime so he would fall asleep easily and not fight bedtime.  I have found this is actually a favorite part of my day.

Didn't have a picture of me and Lukas cuddling, but I did have one of him and Molly!

Tuesday night I put a cartoon on he likes and he cuddled into me with all his blankies.  I was sitting and reading while he was cuddling and watching his cartoon.  I must admit it was heaven!  Plus he had just had a bath and he smelled like baby lotion and his shampoo.   Heavenly!  I love it when he smells clean...which doesn't actually last very long these days.

While I was sitting there reading and he was watching his cartoons I looked over and he had almost all of his Pixar cars lined up on the arm of the couch.  It was a little silly, but they all were facing us and I felt like his cars were watching us cuddle while he watched his cartoon and I read my book.  He does this lately.  Lines up all his cars.  He will even break off parts of his snack and pretend to share with his cars.  Sometimes his cars will fight over the snack.  His imagination is so refreshing!

Bouncy Bouncy

Last month we went to our family company picnic.  I say "we" because my husband and I both work for the same company.  The picnic had lots of fun stuff for Lukas to do.  They had candy and toy fishing, a big park to play in, games to play, and those big bouncy fun things for little kids.  His buddy Haidyn was there too because her Dad works for the same company.

Well after devouring his lunch and doing some candy and toy fishing I finally got him to try the bouncy things.  They had a Blue's Clue's, Under the Sea, and then one that had slides in the front and looked like a little castle.  He mostly played in the Blue's Clue's one.  He had a great time!

My only struggle the with the bouncy things was getting his shoes off.  He doesn't like to take his shoes off for some reason.  He doesn't even want to do it at home unless he has to.  I took his shoes off and he cried for almost 10 minutes.  I ignored him the whole time, but after he got over the shock of having his shoes off he had fun and I couldn't get him away from the bouncy things.

Praying Chocolate

I took today off to spend some time with my Mom and Lukas.  We had a pretty great day!  I got some laundry done, my garden cut back, we went out to lunch, and to the library.

Lunch was great!  We ate at one of my and my Mom's favorite places to eat.  It's a little sandwich place in our home town.  She makes fresh homemade bread and fresh homemade desserts.  AWESOME!  We got some O Henry bars for after lunch.  While my Mom was opening hers Lukas was watching her and he put his hands together like he was praying and whispered "chocolate."  My Mom and I burst out laughing!  We couldn't stop laughing!  Lukas started saying "stop it!"  He didn't want us laughing.  It was funny though and hard to stop laughing!

The library was not too bad either.  While I went and looked for a book my Mom and Lukas read some books and played with toys in the children's section. He was a really good boy at the library.

I must say it was a great Monday!

Happy Birthday Mamma!

Yep it's my birthday today.  30 for the second year in a row!  My birthday is fun, but I would rather celebrate Lukas's birthday!  I like his birthday more than mine!  :)
