No Mama, I sleep!

That picture above is Lukas not wanting to get up in the morning. He rolls over or just lays there and ignores my sing song voice of mine when I try to wake him up weekday mornings. He is becoming a master at it too. He will roll over and then cover his head with the blankets, or he balls up into the fetal position and then still ignores me. He likes his sleep just like his daddy does!

Then there is me...I wake up early and can't sleep anymore by usually 6:30-7am. I tiptoe around, because I don't want to wake Lukas up. This is on a weekend too! Nothing is more frustrating then wanting to sleep in and then your body/mind doesn't let you! Oh well it does give me a quiet start to the day at least.

Build it High...

Mr. Lukas loves to build with legos! We used both sets of legos the other night, both small and big legos. We made a little garage for his cars. Then we made a tower as high as we could go, and then we made a little castle another day for his cars. It's fun making something out of nothing with Lukas!

Happy Building!

Yay!

Yesterday was a great day! Sometimes the stars align and the day is great! It's not often it happens, but when it comes along you really appreciate it. 3 things went well for me yesterday...in no specific order.
1. My focaccia bread recipe turned out awesome!
2. The dinner turned out great for Father's Day. I think we may make it again! Yummm!
3. I got to start reading my book that I got for this summer.

My Mom picked up the yeast for me so I didn't have to go to the store! (Thanks Mom!) I whipped up the bread recipe and then let it rise. When Lukas finally took a nap I got the bread all ready to be baked and then while it was doing it's final rise I started reading my book. I also poured myself a glass of wine. What better way to pass an hour or two on a Sunday afternoon. With a book and a glass of wine (Yay)! After Lukas woke up I started making the "glorified goulosh" for the Fathers Day dinner we had planned with Chris's family. It was a little different than how we usually make it. No tomato juice and lots more spices and fresh parsley. It was very good! It was busy in a cooking and baking sort of way, but it was a nice busy. I can't believe I actually like baking and cooking. (Me from 10 years ago would be impressed!)

Happy Father's Day!!!

May I just say...I believe my husband is the best daddy ever! I am a little biased when it comes to him though. What can I say I am still in love with him and more everyday!

To My Husband,

You are truly an awesome father. You are patient with Lukas. Quick to help, but still let him learn things on his own. The way you and Lukas play makes me smile and gush with happiness! He loves his daddy very much and I love you very much too! XOXO

Happy Father's Day!!!

Dun, dun, dun....Storms again on June 17th

Last year on June 17th we had a tornado hit our town. The post is here Lukas's 1st Tornado. Well last night on the anniversary of June 17th our area had another tornado. Except it wasn't thank goodness in the same town as us this time. It was about 20-30 miles west and 15 miles north. Thank the lord it didn't come our way!

While I was making dinner last night I kept watching out the window and our patio door looking at the clouds. They were a very dark blue and lots of lightening. My husband kept saying those clouds look weird. I nodded and agreed they did look weird. The whole night that was all we got. A big wall of black clouds that went around us and just gave us a big lightening storm. Lukas would just look out the window and every time he would see lightening he called it "McQueen". He would say "Look Mama McQueen." Yep...he calls "lightening" McQueen, because that is after all his name (Lightening McQueen.) We were very lucky.

A friend of ours from work lost his house. He and his daughter were in the basement while a tornado took out his house, a barn, and all the trees on his property. They were very lucky. Here is their property. We are praying for them and we are very happy they are safe and sound.

Temper Tantrums

Some children and *ahem* people (not myself) are very stubborn. I find Lukas is actually a pretty easy going kid, but he can be stubborn just like everyone else.

The last few nights I have mixed up supper and made other things. They are regular dishes we usually eat, but I put some new things in them. The 1st night (mac n cheese, with ham, and green beans) he ate some of it, but I made him a peanut butter sandwich instead. The 2nd night (tuna hotdish with cheese, and broccoli) he didn't even touch the it and had nothing. My husband told me "we can't always give him something he wants instead." He does love his peanut butter sandwiches and they are something he absolutely loves. However, I don't see the harm in him eating them if he won't eat his supper. It's not hard to put peanut butter on a piece of whole wheat bread. It's actually not bad for him at all either. I guess it's the fact that we don't want him thinking that he doesn't have to eat what we give him. We do want him to eat what we give him...even if it's a few bites.

Reminiscing

This picture was taken the week we brought Lukas home from the hospital. He was such a sweet little guy. He had his days and nights mixed up, but that happens sometimes.

I have been in that memory mode lately. I feel like I want another baby and then I get a little nervous just thinking about it. What I remember about the baby stage is that it certainly doesn't last very long. I remember my husband and I sitting at home dealing with our new born that first summer we had Lukas. He really missed us being on the go and doing whatever we wanted. I kept telling him this won't last forever! Well I was totally right. Now we don't mind being home and having some down time.
Babies are a treasure! Here are some pictures of my sweet little guy in his first few months.

Clear thoughts, and actions

Wow what a week! Between running, baking, and keeping up with Lukas and work it's been a fast, but a slow week. I do realize I just made no sense! That happens...anyway on to my evening last night.

Last night was a normal evening of making supper, playing with Lukas, and I did a little baking. Whenever I bake or am making supper Lukas either gets the step stool out or pushes a chair up so he can "help" me. Well last night that was all he wanted to do was help me. I did let him help measure the stuff for the cookies I baked, but other than that he just sat there and played in the sink.

I looked over at him and he was trying to drink from a dirty bowl in the sink at one point. Quickly I grabbed it and told him "Lukas icky!" He said "No Mama wash hands." I firmly told him he was done washing his hands (because he was actually playing in the water) and we need to dry his hands off so he can go play. Turning off the water and drying his hands brought on a huge meltdown! I can't believe how fast it came on! He got down and started telling me what for.

"Wash hands Mama!" "Don't Mama!" All of this while screaming at the top of his lungs. I asked him if he was done and he firmly said "no!" and that was when I removed him from the kitchen and we went to have a chat in the living room.

Once I took him in the living room he started crying, and I told him his hands were clean and he didn't need to wash them anymore. "He gently grabbed my face with his little hands and said "me wash hands, they awky." I told him he was not washing his hands he was trying to drink from a dirty bowl. He said "me cup Mama." So I went and got him his cup with some water since he just stated he was thirsty. Then he walked off and started playing with his cars and sipping off his cup. I was speechless. He clearly just told me why he was in the water and why he was going to drink from the dirty bowl.

Regardless...he was playing in the water, but I was impressed he gave me reason why he thought he was in the water. I was blown away!

Nature Walk

Sunday evening my husband and I decided to take Lukas on a little walk in our local nature center. It was a gorgeous evening and Lukas was in a fantastic mood!

We got there and started walking. He kept reminding us that water was ahead. He would say "look Mama, water!" Even before we were at the water. His memory is pretty sharp! After we would reach the stepping stones or bridges he would tell the water bye bye and keep walking.

That night we saw birds (which all birds are hawks right now, since the Zollman Zoo visit), a turtle, and ducks! Lukas quacked at the ducks swimming in the pond. He wanted to move the turtle, because he thought it was stuck. The turtle was digging a hole for eggs or something. We assured him the turtle was fine and it wasn't stuck.

We were looking for frogs back by the ponds, but they are tadpoles yet. We will have to visit in a few weeks and see if those tadpoles are frogs yet! Lukas will get a kick out of that!

Big Boy Bed

During the Memorial weekend we switched Lukas from a crib to a toddler bed. I didn't even cry! Wow! It seems as he gets bigger I cry because he is growing up too fast!

Sunday afternoon we took down his crib and brought up the toddler bed I bought from a friend whose little boy also loved the movie Cars. Lukas was pretty excited his new bed has Lighting McQueen on it! It made me happy he liked it...after all this was his new bed. I didn't want him to want his crib.

Well he didn't take a nap that day. He wouldn't sleep in the bed for a nap. I fear his nap days are coming to an end. I pray I am wrong! I love nap time!

However, that night he did pretty good sleeping in the bed. He did get up a few times and came to the door crying. I just picked him up and gently put him back in bed. I gave him a hug and said "nite nite Lukas." It took 2 times of that and then he stayed in his bed and went to sleep.

The next few nights it was the same thing, but after 3 nights of sleeping in his big boy bed he will go to sleep without crying or getting up after I lay him down. I am truly impressed that he did so well!

Oxbow Park and Zollman Zoo

What a busy last week! Wow! We had a non-busy/busy Memorial weekend and week. Memorial Day we went to Oxbow Park and Zollman Zoo in Byron Minnesota.

The day started out with all of us sleeping in! What a great way to start the day. Then I made sandwiches for the picnic we were going to have after visiting the park and zoo. Uncle Joe and his girlfriend Sam came along and we were on our way!

When we got there Lukas got to see all sorts of animals! Eagles, hawks, otters, turkeys, a cougar, goats, cows, a porcupine, deer, bison, and horses! There were many more animals, but I couldn't believe how nice the park and zoo was. It was free too. Here is a link to the zoo.

When we were done at the zoo we went into their nature center that had bones, snakes, and some other stuff. It was a neat building, but the snakes gave me the willies!

We then had a picnic and were on our way home. It was a beautiful way to spend our Memorial Day afternoon. We will definitely go back!
