Coughing All Night

Lukas has a cold. It's not a really "bad" cold, but it is causing him to not sleep soundly. He will wake up and cough, cry a little then go back to sleep. He did that 4 times throughout the night. This morning when he woke up he was still tired. I felt bad for him so I made him his favorite breakfast of chocolate chip pancakes! He gobbled them up and begged for "mor". Then we cuddled for awhile and played with his cars. For lunch I spoiled him again. I made little mac and cheese cups and English muffin pizzas. http://dinnersforayear.blogspot.com/2008/08/double-mac-and-cheese-bites.html
He loved them too! After lunch he crawled on my lap curled up with his "bees" (blankets) and fell asleep. I put him in his crib so he could get a good nap and help fight off this cold! I do love lazy Sundays!

*Oh and also go team USA today in Men's Hockey!!! Bring home the gold!

Nite nite

This week has been incredibly busy! It seems as though we get up, get ready, go to work, come home, make supper, do laundry/dishes, put Lukas to bed, and then do it all over again the next day. Lukas has also been having a teething week. Complete with the "fun" diapers and crabbiness. I believe the rest of the molars are finishing cutting right now. His poor little hand is all chapped from him constantly having it in his mouth. His appetite hasn't been as good as it usually is either. He is still eating, but we are used to him asking for "mor" and he hasn't done that in awhile. His word of choice this week has been "mama" or "mommy" and he will follow me around saying it while I am trying to make supper, do laundry, or pick up. He just wants my undivided attention and to sit and snuggle with him. I do love to snuggle! He has also been going to bed really early this week! He will cuddle in with me and then his eyes get really heavy. So I usually take him in his room to read a book (which he pushes away because he just wants to go to bed). Last night I went in his room to rock to him and read and he just said "nite nite momma". I gave him a hug and decided to see if that was what he wanted. I put him in his crib, he rolled over, and then I covered him up. That was that. Not another peep he went straight to sleep! I think lately when he is tired he gets like me and all he wants are his blankets and pillow and go to bed! Not a bad way to be.

Mama...one more good nite kiss!

Bedtime can be a pain in the you know what sometimes at our house. It all depends on if Lukas gets over tired. If he gets over tired then you can bet it's going to be hard to get him to sleep. He will just sit in his crib and cry until my husband or I go in and help calm him to sleep. My husband is actually better at being patient with him and calming him when he is over tired. I have my moments too though. Well last night we were in his room and I was rocking him and reading before bedtime. Lately it seems he wants to be in control of the books, but I make him sit with me and listen to the story. I think it helps him calm down and let the tired set in once he gives in to me reading the story. He clutches his "B's" (blankets) and his cup and finally cuddles in and listens. (This is one of the best feelings in the world! I will miss this when I can't rock him and read stories anymore.) After 2 or 3 stories I tell him "Ok give Mommy a kiss" and he will lean in so I can kiss him and then we tuck him in bed. I will turn on the monitor and humidifier and then tell him goodnight. As I leave the room he will giggle a little and say "Mama kiss" so I turn around and tell him "Ok one more kiss." After that he thinks it's a game and tries to get me to do it again. I tell him "I love you Lukas, goodnight" and then shut the door. I will hear him on the monitor sometimes trying to get me back in there. I will hear "Mama kiss" coming from the monitor. I just smile and think...go to bed little boy!

Fun in the Snow!

We have been getting pounded by snow lately. The last few storms we have had the equivalent of a foot or more of snow. I bundled up Lukas the last few days we have went out and shoveled. He will wander up and down the drive way playing with his little shovel while we do the actual shoveling. After we are done we usually pull him around in his sled and he loves it! He loves it so much that when my husband or I decide he is done he gets mad and doesn't want to come in the house. What a true little Minnesotan we have on our hands! I used to do the same thing when I was little. Being outside was great! I can't wait to take him sledding for real!

Valentines Day

My Mom used to make my brothers and I "heart shaped" toast all the time when we were little. Now that Lukas is getting older and for valentines I made him a valentines themed breakfast complete with "heart shaped" toast.

Lukas enjoyed his breakfast very much! He kept telling me "Mama look" and then saying "Ummm" when tasting his toast. I was glad he enjoyed it and I was glad I got to make "heart shaped" toast for him. I remember when I was little it made me feel so special! Hopefully it did the same for him!

1st set of Molars...Check

Lukas now has all four molars! Yay! Last week was something with him and teething again. When Lukas teethes he really teethes. Not only did he have the "yucky diapers" but he was not a happy camper. Well now I know why. He wasn't cutting just one molar he was working on two molars. He now has all of them. The only teeth he has left to get are the canine teeth and then his 2 year molars. Then I guess after all that he will be good until they start to fall out, but thank goodness that is still a long way off!

Rummm Rummm

Kids are funny. They don't try to be and it just comes naturally. You can't help but get a kick out of the things they say or do. Lukas has a new thing he's been doing. He is obsessed over cars and he just loves them. Lately if we are driving somewhere he will sit there and say "cars go rummm rummm". It's so cute! It makes us laugh every time. When we were on our way to the store with Ahma (this is what he calls my Mom) and Eddie (my brother) he kept saying it over and over. All we could do was laugh! He would giggle too. Ah...how refreshing toddlers can be!

Say "What Lukas?"

My baby boy is talking more and more everyday. He will do something he is proud of and then say "Mama, then he says or explains whatever he did in gibberish." It's cute that he is trying to put so many words together, but I can't always understand him. Most times I know exactly what he is trying to tell me, however other times it's a toss up of what exactly he is trying to communicate. Lately he likes to put his volleyball and bouncy ball in a basket and then announce that he has put both 0f the balls in the basket. He will go out of his way to show and tell us he has done this. My husband and I were in the kitchen getting supper ready one evening and he came in with the basket with the balls. He said "Mama, bawlz enbkzt hehe" and then he turns to my husband "Daddy, bawlz enbkzt" and then he claps and giggles. It's cute how he takes the time to tell us both individually what he has done.
Another thing Lukas has started to love is pointing to body parts and talking about them. His belly or head is his favorite conversation topic. He will come over to me and say "belly" and then lift up his shirt. I will then tickle and zurburt his belly until he laughs. This was fun and all until he started trying to do it back to me. He will come over lift up my shirt and say "belly." He then will try to tickle my belly! One day it caught me off guard and his hands were freezing! I jumped and started laughing so hard, however I totally scared him when I jumped. It was still really cute though!

Only 5!

Well my January challenge ended with my family only trying 5 new recipes this month. Which I guess is OK considering January just flew by so fast! Here is a quick list of what we tried...and I rated them according to how much we liked them. 5 stars is the highest!

1. and 2. Chinese Garden Casserole and Baked Eggrolls (I posted those the beginning of January.)http://mrlukastabor.blogspot.com/2010/01/dinner-1-lukas-loved-it-with-2-new.html
RATING =***** SOOOO GOOD!

3. Chicken Parm Soup (Rachel Ray's cook book Just In Time)
RATING=*** from me and ***** from my Husband he loved it.

4. Chicken A La King http://dinnersforayear.blogspot.com/2008/10/dinner-137-chicken-la-king.html
RATING=**** We did like the recipe, but we will change somethings next time we make it.

5. Roasted Chicken with Brown Rice and baby Portebellos http://dinnersforayear.blogspot.com/2009/10/roasted-chicken-and-brown-rice.html
RATING =***** AWESOME!!! SO GOOD!!

I am proud we tried 5 new recipes, but I wish I could have made my goal. However, I think 5 was probably more realistic for us. This month I am gonna try for 2 new recipes (it's a good way to throw Lukas off and get him to eat some veggies!) With the 2 new recipe goal for this month I am adding in 2 new baking recipes too. Lately I have tried to keep my cookie jar stocked, but I have noticed most of my recipes aren't that healthy or are very fatty. The goal for the baking recipes is to cut down on the fat and sugars and see how the cookies turn out. I did find a recipe for Lite Cowboy cookies (that call for no butter but applesauce instead). We will give these a try first!
