Camping

We took Lukas on his first camping trip this last weekend! He totally loved it! We got to the campground around 2:30pm and started getting our site all set up. We were tenting it so it was interesting. While we were setting things up he chowed some watermelon and then after we got all set up done we took him down to the water to cool down. He sat in the water, and splashed around in it for a little bit. The water landing for tubing the river was right behind our campsite so it was nice to run down there to cool off occasionally. My husband got to fish a little bit, but with people coming out of the water there it didn't work out the best. We made some hot dogs on the fire for supper and went on a few walks with Lukas. He played at our campsite with his little lawnmower and his outside beach toys. There was a small hill behind our campsite and he would run down the hill and come back up and run back down, over and over and over. My husband played with him a little and he would trip and fling himself into Daddy's arms. He didn't fuss or fight at all the whole day. Bedtime was pretty easy too. My husband made a fire and we relaxed by the fire and then went and put him down for bed in the tent. He grumbled and complained in the tent for about 10 minutes, and then he fell asleep in his pack n play. We got to enjoy the fire for a little bit and then went to bed. Lukas slept great, but we didn't. The ground was just too hard. When Lukas woke up we fed him some breakfast and packed everything up to go home. All in all I think it was a successful camping trip. We learned a little and enjoyed each other a lot. I feel confident saying Lukas had a fabulous time!

Hot summer days

We have been pushed completely into summer since a week or two ago. Our normal high temperature was in the mid 70's and now all of a sudden it's 85-90 degrees along with humidity. I should have known that weather would kick in for the 4th of July coming up. Well along with the hot weather we have started introducing Lukas to water activities. Last Thursday we set up a sprinkler in our front yard and he had a pretty good time with that. He wouldn't go in by himself at first, but he was curious enough to go check it out with Daddy of course. Last night I set up his froggy pool and he wasn't sure about it. He would step one foot in the pool and then take it back out immediately. He liked the little sprinkler part on the front it has though. It's neat to see him experiencing with water and getting him used to it. More summer fun to follow!

Independent Eating

My baby is not wanting me to feed him as much as he used to. He is eating on his own really good lately. You put his dish with food in front of him and if you try to help him he freaks out. So you just sit there and watch the mess unfold. He is getting much better at using a spoon and fork. It's still messy, but most of the bites make it into his mouth. After he is done eating this is when he flips over his dish and plays with his food. It's interesting and extremely messy, but good times!

Lukas's First Tornado

Living in the Midwest means lots of thunderstorms and possible tornados. They all don't make tornados just the possibility to have one during a storm. Well my husband was gone on business last week and Lukas and I had to wait out a storm that produced some tornados. Here is the little story:

The weather was making me a little nervous, but I thought as it always does that it will just pass quickly. I got Lukas in the bath and I got him all washed up. I sat there and let Lukas play in the tub for a little bit, but then the tornado warning sirens went off. So I grabbed him wrapped him in a towel and grabbed his pajamas and we went downstairs. I got him all dressed and we played downstairs while the sirens went off. After the sirens stopped we went back upstairs. I looked out the window to our front yard and the sky was an awkward dark orange, so I went to the other end of the house to look out our backyard and it was dark. It was the darkest I have seen the sky in a long time. I thought 'oh great.' I decided to call my Mom and we sat and talked about the weather a little bit. Our local weather was playing some live footage of the storm and what looked to be a funnel cloud. We both just sat there watching the TV. During this Lukas just played with his lawn mower and mowed our carpet. He was happy through it all. Well just then the sirens went off again. My Mom was saying on the phone that a tornado had touched down just a few miles from our house. I told her OK we were going to head back downstairs. Just as all this was happening we lost our power and it started raining really hard. So Lukas and I were back in the basement. He looked at me smiled and said "daddy", I laughed a little and said "nope not daddy buddy." I lit some candles so we could see in the basement. Once the sirens stopped we decided to go over to my Mom's place since we were all by ourselves and had no power. Well she didn't have power either. Just as I got there another siren went off and it started to rain again. That was the last siren for the night thank goodness. We were stuck without power until morning. During this whole ordeal Lukas was our comedy relief. His sense of humor was coming out and making us smile while we were all scared. My husband finally got a hold of me on my cell phone to check on us. He was relieved to hear we were all right too. That was Lukas's first tornado. I think he enjoyed playing downstairs in the dark. What a silly little boy!

No more rain!

We are experiencing the most wet and cold beginning of summer in our area since I cannot remember. It is frustrating because Lukas loves to be outside and with it raining everyday we aren't getting outside at all. He kept pointing to the windows last night and I know he wanted outside, but it was super icky out. No more rain please! Or at least a break for lets say at least 4 to 5 days would be nice!

Losing things

Last night there were two times I was searching all over the house for a few things and I could not find them. Lukas has become obsessed with throwing things in his clothes hamper. If I can't find his wipes or desitin I just look in his clothes hamper and surprise...there they are! He has also started making a mad dash for the bathroom when he hears the bathroom door open. My husband left the bathroom door open last night and I heard Lukas running for the bathroom. I got there just in time for me to see him getting ready to lift the lid of the toilet and throw his sippy cup in. I stopped the act thank goodness! He also loves putting his hands, toys, and his feet in the dogs water dish. He is drawn to it. Needless to say...I believe more baby proofing may be in order. It's getting to be a challenge keeping him out of things these days!

Ready for fun

Lukas got to hang out with Grandma Mireau last night. She watches him every Tuesday for us because we play softball. They got to finally go outside! They went for a walk, and visited my Mom's friend and her little girl. Her name is Grace and they call her Gracie. Gracie and Lukas played so well together! I was told she kept digging all her toys out of her toy box and giving them to Lukas to play with. I wish I could have seen it, that would have been cute! I am glad Lukas finally got to be outside. He loves outside so much! This morning he cried when I took his shoes off at daycare, because he wanted to go outside. Poor little guy. However, the daycare lady said she was going to take all the kids on a walk after breakfast. So that will be some outside time he can enjoy!

Waiting on the sunshine

This weekend was a very very rainy weekend. Lukas would look at me and point to the window or the door and say "pishh". Which means outside or something like that. He would smile and play with his shoes. I felt bad because it was just too rainy for us to be outside. He has turned into one little outdoors guy! When he is outside all is well in the world. He has also started running, which has led to many scrapes and bruises. He even skinned up his nose pretty good a few weekends back. Minnesota weather is so very unpredictable, I am hoping some warm weather comes soon and that we won't be stuck in the house every weekend. ***Praying for some sunshine!***
