Shoe shopping
Last night we went to get Lukas a new pair of shoes. First of all nobody has a very good selection when it comes to little boy shoes. You get basically 2 kinds to pick from a dressy shoe or a tennis shoe. However, when it comes to girls...then you have like 10 choices. Pretty shoes, tennis shoes, boots, and 2 to 4 different choices for each style. It does bother me a little that little boys do not have the same selection as girls. Mothers with boys have a much more limited selection of shoes and clothes. I do understand that it's fun to dress up your baby girl and all too. I do get that. It is just a pet peeve of mine. Anyway, we got him some white and blue tennis shoes. Nothing fancy or "nice". After all he is a little boy, and that is probably why boys don't have the selection that girls do. This morning I got him to daycare and my daycare lady says "Oh Lukas you got new shoes! Well these won't fit very long." I asked her how do you know that. She put the shoe up to his foot and told me that when you buy baby shoes you leave about an inch from toe to the tip of the shoe and you don't have him try it on. You put the bottom of the shoe up to the bottom of his foot. So...now i know how to pick out shoes for him. I guess you just learn as you go, because I certainly never read that anywhere.

Butt Shuffle
My baby has now begun to get away when I change his diaper. He used to sit there so nicely while I would sit and change his diaper. However, not anymore. He rolls over and crawls as fast as he can away. He also does this thing that I find to be funny yet a little annoying. When I get done wiping him down and a new diaper under him he puts his feet on the ground and shifts his butt back and forth. Hence the "Butt Shuffle." He tries to get out of the clean diaper and move away to get away from me! I think it's cute because it's actually pretty funny when he does it. I also think it's annoying because it's getting harder and harder to change him. He does not like to sit still...at all! A guy from work told me that if he is already giving me a run then just wait. I guess we will have to see. The Butt Shuffle is pretty funny though!

Sweetest Sound!
Lukas finally said "Mama!" It is the sweetest sound to my ears! All Sunday I kept telling him "Ma Lukas say Ma." He would just laugh or giggle at me. We went out to lunch with my Grandma and Aunt Michele and we worked on him there too. My Aunt Michele would lean into Lukas and say "Mama Lukas" and he would just laugh or giggle at her. Well then last night he was playing and all of a sudden he said Mama! I was like that's right Lukas Mama! Then he looked at me and said it again! I grabbed him and threw him into the air, caught him, and just hugged him. I said "that's right baby!" Then he said Mama again and again all night long. I never thought it would feel this good to have him finally say it!

I'm following you
Lukas has started crawling after us as fast as he can if we leave the room. It is actually pretty funny. He sounds so happy to be chasing us into the kitchen or his bedroom. We gate off the kitchen normally and close him off to the bathroom and our bedroom. So if he sees the door open he crawls as fast as he can to it! He is such a stinker. If you go in the kitchen while it's gated off that is when he gets up and shakes the gate. He looks like a little prisoner in jail! He will try to stick his chubby little hand through the hole to see what he can reach. It's getting easier for him to stop and flip around when crawling too. I have noticed he is catching himself with his hands and arms when he falls too! He is becoming more coordinated everyday!

Valentines with Grandma and Grandpa Mireau
Lukas got to spend valentines with my parents on Saturday night. My husband and I went out for valentines together, so Lukas got to hang with some family. My Mom had my brother and Grandma over. They all had dinner and got to play with Lukas. She said he had just a great time! He crawled all over laughed and was being just a silly little guy. Last night she called me saying that she missed him so much. They got him this little train that pops up balls and moves back and forth. He loved it! It's nice to know that when my husband and I go and leave him with them that he has such a great time!

Fun day
Yesterday daycare was closed so I took the day off and stayed at home with Lukas. It was so incredible! We played and tried a new snack. Most of the morning we played on the floor with his toys. I read him a book and then he took a nap. Lunch time rolled around and after that we went grocery shopping and visited Great Grandma. We had so much fun together! He was crawling around rearranging Great Grandma's stuff and trying to eat anything he could get his hands on. While we were there he got to try Great Grandma's favorite snack. The peanut butter cookie. I didn't give him much since this was his first time eating it. He did love it though! He made "mmmmmhmmm" noises while gumming it. Then we went back home he took another nap and was up for the rest of the evening. He also got to take a bath like a big boy last night in the big people tub! He did great! It was such an awesome day...I miss him today though. My husband got to be home with him today. I know they are having fun though!

Mr. Love
Last night Lukas was so affectionate. He always gets that way when his gums are bugging him. You could tell he wasn't himself last night. He would get down and play but then he would crawl back to me and hug me or put his head on me. His eyes looked so tired. At one point he was perfectly happy just sitting there with his feet crossed chewing on his teething ring while leaning on me. I love when he is cuddly, but I don't like it that he wasn't feeling good. He is such a little lover.

First Steps?
Last night after supper Lukas was playing on the floor. He has gotten very good and cruising. When I say cruising I mean he hangs onto the couch or chair and walks hanging onto it. Well last night he actually took some steps without hanging on! He was at the TV stand and took two steps over to his toy bin in the living room. He grabbed the toy bin right away when he got there, but it was so neat. My heart skipped a beat! I didn't want him to fall. It's neat seeing his little mind work and figure out how to do stuff. Last night I bought a baby gate, so he won't cruise on into the kitchen!

Teething pains
Lukas is having a tough time again with teething. He keeps teething, but never gets any teeth. It gets very frustrating! He is not a happy camper while teething either. Last night he didn't want to play, he didn't want anything, and we didn't know really what to do. He just sat there crying. We tried the ear drops to relieve pressure for Lukas (the doctor prescribed them to give him when his ears are bothering him due to teething.) Those worked for a little bit, so I finally broke down and gave him some baby Tylenol. This helped so much! I hate resorting to it, but when he is having teething pain I don't know what else to do. He won't chew on his teething rings when he is in pain like that. He also has icky diapers due to his teething. This has been going on now for a while. He will start to teeth and stop, then start up again and stop, and again and again. It is frustrating when you know there isn't anything you can do. I was talking to my friend Jessie and she has a daughter the same age as Lukas. She has been teething a lot too, but her daughter actually cuts teeth when she starts teething. She has 8 teeth already, so at least she has the relief of cutting the teeth. Lukas has all the same discomforts, but no teeth. Which makes me worry that I am not seeing the worst of the teething yet. I can't imagine how bad it might get when he is actually going to cut teeth. I guess all we can do is wait!

I have come so far!
Crawling is a lot of work. Lukas crawls all over, and we seriously need to purchase a baby gate. That is just all there is to it. He also gets so mad when he crawls all the way over to what he was trying to get to...only to have one of us grab him and place him back in the safe area. He doesn't get mad at first. It's usually the 2nd or 3rd time that he will get mad and cry with frustration. I tell him, "no baby you can't be in the kitchen (or where ever he is trying to get into)." He will just get over it and try to crawl back over there all over again. He only does this for 2 or 3 times, and then he gives up and goes another direction. It's not just frustrating for him, but chasing him all over at times can get frustrating. I do know this will only get worse when he starts walking. Dear Lord...I can't wait to buy a baby gate!

1st Super Bowl
Lukas had his first super bowl! We went over to my husband's cousin's Nicole's house and hung out with her and her husband and then Chris's brother too. We had such a great time! Lots of food and the football game was good too. Lukas was crawling all over her house and she had some pretty nice things in his reach. He especially loved their TV. Their TV has a glowing blue circle on the bottom part of it. This glowing circle is the power button. He would stand up and reach for that all the time. It made me glad that our power button on our TV is on the top! He also really loved their animals. He pet the kitties and tried playing and giving kisses to the puppy. Lukas is an animal lover already, which I just love! My husband and I are into animals and I am happy he is picking up on that. Well, most of the house was cheering on Arizona because it was their first super bowl. Every time they would do something good Nic would get excited and cheer for Arizona. Well this caught Lukas off guard and he would get scared sometimes. She would then start cheering and turn to Lukas "it's OK!" I thought that was cute. His first super bowl and he was so good. Pittsburgh won 27 to 23.
