1 Birthday and 3 Christmases
Well Christmas has come and gone. The whole month of December went entirely way too fast! This Christmas was a bitter sweet one. My family had to deal with not having my Step Dad Brett. He loved Christmas and the whole time of the year! It would have been his birthday on the 23rd so we all got together that night to basically honor him and be there for each other. That is the bitter part of it, however the sweet part was Lukas. He finally learned how much fun it was to rip open presents. I know if Brett could have been here he would have had a blast with him this Christmas! The three Christmases started Christmas Eve we went to my husband's side of the family's Christmas. It was really fun, but Lukas really didn't get into it that much. He thought it was funny everyone was ripping into things. Well Christmas morning we opened presents just with our little family. He remembered from the night before that you rip open a present. So Christmas morning he did much better! Christmas night we went to my Mom's for Christmas and he was a pro by then at opening presents. He would laugh when he would see what was inside. It was very cute! The last and 3 rd day of Christmas was Saturday the day after Christmas. We had some bad weather so all my family didn't make it back until the day after Christmas. We all got together and did the present thing again. He had alot of fun with all his new stuff. We had a really great Christmas and Lukas made it great! I will post pics soon!

The French Fry Snatcher!
My baby boy loves French Fries! Lukas, my family, and I were out to lunch at Perkins yesterday. It was a nice Sunday lunch we were all just enjoying each others company and a few of us were munching our salads before our food came. Well we had a few other families seated behind us and to the side of us while we were sitting there. Their food came and the waitress was handing out their food. The waitress used a big tray on a stand to serve the food. She put the stand with the tray right next to Lukas. While we were all visiting my Grandma said "Jessie" and pointed to Lukas. My Mom, Grandma, and Aunt all started laughing. Lukas had gently stole two french fries off someones plate from the big tray. I was so embarrassed! It was very cute. He was pretty happy with his two french fries he got. He didn't know any better and was happily munching them as we all laughed. The waitress was very young...perhaps she didn't know how grabby toddlers can be!

So much climbing...and other toddler fun!
Lukas is a master climber! He climbs the couches, chairs, lazy susan, and the other day he almost got on the kitchen counter. He has learned that if you push something up to something tall you want to climb...it makes as a step! (sarcasm on) What a wonderful development this is! (sarcasm off) I hate that he has learned how to climb everything! Get down and sit just aren't good enough anymore! You literally leave the room for 1 minute and come back to him standing on the kitchen table. One of his favorite things to climb and stand on is the end table between our recliner and love seat. Not as scary as the kitchen table, but still scary! He doesn't climb out of his crib yet and I am praying he never does. He actually likes his crib and I have only seen him climb in. Thank goodness!
We have had other "fun" moments this weekend too. Lukas was napping the other day at my Mom's while we were there making Christmas cookies. He woke up, but he did it quietly so we didn't hear him. My brother Eddie went in to get him when he heard him. Right when he walked in he noticed "brown" stuff on Lukas's hands and he seen it on his blankets too. That's right...Lukas had did a #2 and did some digging in his pants. Only to then touch everything in his pack and play and get it all yucky! I got him straight into the bath and all cleaned up!
Man...this toddler business is alot of work. He is still cute...alot of work, but well worth it!

Cupa tea
I am sneaky! Let me tell you why. Lukas was fighting me tooth and nail when I was trying to get him dressed in the morning. I mean I couldn't blame him. I don't like to get up from a warm bed and get dressed to leave either. ..it's the pits! So I came up with something to give him to distract him. I give him a cup of juice in the morning while I am getting him dressed! He just drinks his cup and I change him and get him ready for the day! I feel a little guilty using a cup like this...it kind of feels like a pacifier or something. However, it's a form of nourishment and he likes his cups! I took away his pacifier when he was 6 months old...and we haven't looked back. He wasn't that attached to it anyway. However, a cup of something he loves to drink is the trick! He calls all his cups "cupa tea". So when I wake him up in the morning I play and tickle him a little...give him is cup and start getting his ready. I have done this and for two weeks it has worked! I know it won't work forever, but for now it is working and I will take it!

Bob...
Lukas always wants to watch "Bob" which is SpongeBob Square Pants. I sit and watch this cartoon wondering if I should let him be watching it. It's goofy and it definitely has adult jokes, but also kid stuff. I have tried to get him to watch other cartoons too. Like Curious George, Magic School Bus. I am thinking he is just too young to understand these cartoons. SpongeBob is just a goofy no learning cartoon. Maybe he will be more interested in the educational cartoons as he gets older.

Getting Dressed Blues
Lukas has started to really fight me the last few weeks when it comes to getting dressed. He wants absolutely nothing to do with getting in his clothes for the day. Diaper changes can be a challenge, but they aren't as bad. I have started looking into ways to make this better for the both of us. I don't really like pinning him down and wrestling with him just to get him dressed. So I started asking friends and family. They all have really suggestions. Some said to let him help me get him dressed. So I did this. He doesn't want me to help at all. So that isn't working right now. Some said to try giving him some options like 2 or 3 different outfits to make him feel like he is in control of something. I did this and I was surprised that he did actually pick out an outfit, but when it came to putting it on he still didn't want my help. I did ask him to put his pants and shirts on without my help to show him that he needs my help. Well that didn't work either. He tried to put them on and he couldn't get it. So he threw them and yelled "No!" at me. I am hoping this phase doesn't last very long. I am going to start trying to show him how to put his clothes on and take them off. Which could also backfire, but I gotta try something.

Dancing in the Newspapers
Lukas can be so silly at times. We were over for dinner at my mother in law's place and Lukas found something he likes to do. Play and dance in the Newspapers. He is very silly!

Soooo Tired...
My little guy has been so tired lately. He has been grabbing his blankies and just laying on the floor in any random spot. I ask him "are you tired?" and he just smiles. Two nights ago he decided to rearrange the bakers rack and lay down on the quesdilla maker. I wish I had a camera for when he did that...it was so funny and cute! Both of my brothers used to do the same thing when they were little. They would be on the go go and then just lay down and fall asleep in some random spot. I wonder if this is just a boy thing? I am sure girls do it too. I think he has been tired between his teething and possibly growing more. Plus I think the weather and season change always does it to people too. Who knows the real reason why he's doing it, but it is cute when he just lays down with his blankies in random spots!

Christmas Cartoons
Christmas cartoons are something I have always enjoyed this time of the year. I would watch them even when I didn't have Lukas. Who can resist Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, The Grinch who Stole Christmas, or Frosty the Snowman! These are childhood classics! My Mom, brother, and I used to sit down around Christmas time and watch these Christmas cartoons all cuddled together. It was a tradition. Well now I am doing the same with Lukas! Last night we cuddled on the couch and watched The Grinch who Stole Christmas. With Lukas starting to actually sit and pay attention to something is just great! Now I can make this a tradition of ours! We will make sure to watch these Christmas cartoons as a prelude to Christmas for years to come. How fun!

2nd Molar Cut...Check!
Lukas finally cut that other molar that has been giving him a hard time! This weekend he was finally fever free and slept well too! It was nice to have him back to his hyper crazy little self. With Thanksgiving and decorating for Christmas we had a big weekend. He barely touched any Thanksgiving food. I do believe his gums were still bugging him. Then Friday I got up a little earlier and decorated the house for Christmas! He doesn't play with the tree as much as I thought we would, but we do have a whole month yet with the tree up. I guess we will see how it goes!

Molar Madness
Mr. Lukas has been going through trying to cut that other molar lately. The poor boy has even been running mild fevers. This is the only time he has ever ran one. When he is teething he is mildly whiny, but very clingy. The other morning when I wanted to take a shower he sat outside the bathroom door and cried for me the whole time. It broke my heart, but he was out there with daddy and he should be alright. Well when he doesn't feel good he wants mommy and nobody else. Tylenol and Motrin have been getting us through this rough teething patch, but I am just praying for this other molar to cut. My little guy deserves some relief!

More teething
I do believe Lukas is teething again. All day Sunday he was whiny and very clingy. We did finally give him some Tylenol and that popped him out of it for a little bit. Now this morning he was running a little fever and won't eat. Perhaps this is another molar giving him a hard time. I guess we will see. Poor little man!

Weekend here we come!
This morning when I was waking Lukas up he kept rolling back over. He wanted to keep sleeping. Well I honestly wanted to stay in bed this morning too...but it's FRIDAY! Yay! I was tickling him and telling him it's Friday and tomorrow he could sleep in! Of course he probably doesn't understand this, but it seems like we are all in such better moods by the time Friday rolls around. He was in a good mood this morning after waking up, and maybe our moods just rub off on each other. It will be nice to have the weekend here and literally have no plans. We can be as lazy as we want to be this weekend! Which means I will probably get to bake and make special things for Lukas's breakfast or lunch. Usually this means chocolate chip pancakes or special mini pizzas for lunch. Some of his favorites! It is fun to spoil him when I get a chance to do it! Ahhh bliss!

Happy Dance!
I am sure every parent can tell you what their children do when they get happy. Some get excited and make noise, clap, or run around! Lukas dances! When I say dance it's a very hyper fast dance. He will pump his legs and feet really fast back and forth until he falls down! He giggles the whole time he is doing it too. This is sheer happiness being displayed at it's best! Every time he does this it just makes us laugh. When he was younger he used to pump this little legs back and forth and we called it 'happy feet'. He does have my goofiness and I love that he can express his happiness so well! When I get happy I also get hyper, however I don't dance. I can't recall if my Mom ever told me I had a happy dance or not. One thing is for sure though Lukas has his little happy dance down pat! He is one of the best things to ever happen to me! Undoubtedly!

More shots
Lukas is now 18 months old! I cannot even believe how fast he is growing! Well with turning 18 months he had to go back to the doctor for another baby well appointment. He has really started to have an anxiety when it comes to going to the doctor. He cries when I put him on the scale or when they are trying to get his heartbeat. He just doesn't want anyone touching him...only Momma. Usually at the 18 month appointment there aren't shots, well he was behind one shot and we got another optional shot. So he had shots yesterday...poor little guy. He screamed just like he always does, but this time afterward he kept going to the door and wanting to go bye-bye. I do understand his fear about shots. I hated them for years and years too, but I did get used to them after being pregnant. They were poking you with those darn needles all the time. I am hoping as he gets older it will get better, but from what I have heard as they get older it gets worse. There are a few shots we didn't get him. We didn't get him the seasonal flu shot or the h1n1 shot. We just feel that if he gets it he will fight it and get the natural immunity to it. My husband has never had a flu shot and I have only had a few flu shots (when I worked at the nursing home ten years ago). Both of us have been relatively healthy. We will see what happens, but we didn't get the shot last year either.

Lip Balm
With cold temperatures come dry lips. My poor little guy has my lips and I have chapped lips in the winter all the time! Lukas has a crack in his lower lip from being chapped. I started using Burt's Bees lip balm on his lips. He doesn't mind me putting it on. It's actually cute how he pokes out his lips so I can put it on him. I pray he doesn't have my problems with his lips. All through out my childhood I would get cold sores, blisters, and chapped lips. Summer was the worst, because the sun can trigger cold sores, blisters, and dryness. I will just have to make sure he gets sun screened well! These days this is all I do to avoid getting them in the summer and now I get a cold sore every once in awhile in the winter. Depends on if I am stressed or have a cold. If Lukas just inherited the chapped lips that I get then I would say he got lucky! We can take care of those chapped lips! Plus he is teething and cutting molars so I am sure it's worse now. As a parent you hope they only inherit the good things...not the bad, but unfortunately we don't get a choice.

Roll Back Over
Every morning I go into Lukas's room and sing song his name "Mister Lukas" gently. He will usually ignore me so then I will come over and tickle his neck and back a little. I sing to him "Good morning, Lukas" and then I tickle him. Sometimes he will giggle and smile and say "Mama" in his cute little voice. Well then the other times he just grabs his blanket and rolls over. This morning he even rolled over and put his blanket over his head! I knew he wasn't going to be happy to get up...not at all! This reminded he of his father! Chris also loves to just roll back over and go to bed, or put a pillow over his face. It's cute to see Lukas doing this too. My favorite mornings though are when he giggles at me for tickling him. Those times are rare, but I will take them whenever!

Success!
Lukas has cut his first molar! :) YAY!!! It took a good week of teething, a diaper rash, and some really nasty diapers...but it finally cut through! Hoooray!

Said good bye to Brett my "Father"
We said good bye to Brett yesterday and buried him. We love you Brett and will forever miss you!
Remembering Brett
Tinkering with old gadgets,
Riding on your motorcycle.
You lived to be outside, under that big blue sky or resting in your comfy chair.
You were happy most any place, it didn't take much.
A can of jellybeans, a corona in your hand.
Never a minute was wasted, you found plenty to do.
You said "Life is what you make it"
Simple things, your shed, your tools, a piece of meat on the grill.
It was worth millions to you.
The tales you use to tell to us, of Vietnam and traveling.
From gun shot wounds, to sleeping under the stars.
Silly little laughs and smart comments.
That little smirk or twinkle in your eye, when you were joking.
Things you said can never be replaced, some so funny, we have to laugh.
We had special days and special times,
From just a quite moment, or a yummy dinner at the Harvest Buffet ,
You made it all so special each time.
You liked to tease, you would not cease,
till you got a reaction, then you were pleased.
That was just you, and you loved it.
Not much money did you have,
But you said you were rich to have a family like ours.
A beautiful wife, loving children, and a special grandson!
We will miss you Brett you were one of those special people,
That gave and gave and never expected anything in return.
A proud man and Marine.
We are grateful to have had such a great man in our family!
IN LOVING MEMORY! I will miss you father! -Jessie Tabor

My Brett

My Step Dad passed away last Wednesday night from cancer. He was only 61 years old. Very very young. He was such a great man. He was my father and I will miss him very much! Brett was a person you could always count on and had the biggest heart. He would literally give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. Lukas loved his "Uampa" he loved playing with him and stealing his hat, Brett was an awesome Grandfather!
We will miss you Brett and we love you very much! Words cannot express the hole we have in our family without you!

High Fives and Circles
Since we live in Minnesota we are in fact Minnesota Vikings fans. Since Brett Favre has come to our team there has been some who support him and don't support him. We support Favre playing on the Vikings, because I think he will bring some good...or we are at least hoping he does! Well last night we had some friends over for the Monday night football game Vikings vs. Packers. It was a very exciting game! We did a lot of cheering, however this all made Lukas very hyper. When a touchdown for the Vikings was scored we would all jump up and cheer, which made Lukas start running in circles and giving us high fives! It was very cute! Each time we got riled or excited about the game he did too! As he gets older it will be even more fun to watch games with him!

Double Whammy
Well our family has been hit by hard news lately. Not only is my Grandma going though cancer, but now my Step Dad (Brett) is too. We found this out last week. He has sarcoma cancer, but they aren't sure exactly what type. With how far the cancer has spread he is a stage 4. I consider my Step Dad my Dad. I have 2 Dads. My biological and my Step Dad Brett. This was horrible news as anyone can imagine, but it makes me the most sad that he won't get to see Lukas grow up. Brett is one of the most wonderful people anyone could get to know. He's caring, sweet, courageous, and brave! He treats my Mom like a queen and the two of them are so cute together. He is also just crazy about Lukas! I think Lukas even brings out the kid in Brett. He has the biggest fight of his life ahead of him right now and will need our prayers. We know this cancer can't be cured, but he is fighting for quality of life and time. May the Lord bless us and help Brett fight the cancer! We aren't going down without a fight!

Wipe away the tears

Lukas has a way of making you feel happy. I don't know if it's his personality or just him being my baby. Well we found out a few months back that my Grandma has melanoma. She did get it removed, but it has spread since and it scares me. When I found out all I could do is cry. Lukas was right there. He didn't understand what was wrong, but he climbed on my lap and played with his car close to me. Nobody on earth knows how long they have here and I guess I should be thankful my Grandma has had a very satisfying and happy life. The Lord only knows how long she has and Lukas and I are going to make sure we make the most of it. We already try to visit weekly, but I think I will try to do extra little things to show her we love her and appreciate her. She is one of those constants in your life that truly are there for you no matter what. I actually have a lot of family that way. I am very blessed and lucky to have such a great family, grandmother, and little boy. He is the one thing my grandma wanted so badly. She would tell me all the time that she wanted a Great Grandchild, and Chris and I were trying. Lukas took us 2 years to conceive. I am so happy I had him and that they are getting to know each other. Little boys are special and tough I must try to be tough too.

Teething, Growing, or Tuckered
This whole summer I have had Mondays off and it's nice. Lukas and I get to spend some time together and sometimes my husband if he is home on a Monday. Our company has been really slow this summer so we were only working 32 hours a week. I absolutely loved the extra day with my little guy! With our crazy weekends the Mondays I have off have been our only really good quality days together. Yesterday Lukas woke up bright and early (strange for him) he usually sleeps in if I don't get him up for daycare. Well he was acting pretty crabby so I decided to put him back down for a nap. I didn't know if he was going through a sleeping period in his growing spurt or his teeth were bothering him. Well he took a 3 hour nap! When he woke up he was his normal happy self, and I was surprised he slept that long. I knew he wouldn't take an afternoon nap after he took such a long morning nap. Well we did some running and went to visit Great Grandma. We came home he ate an afternoon snack and he grabbed his blanket and started laying on the floor. I picked him up and put him in his crib to see if he might need another nap. To my surprise he did need another nap. He took another hour and a quarter nap! When he woke up he was his happy self again and I was thinking we had probably tuckered him out this weekend with being so busy. He must have been playing some catch up!

Connect 4
There is a game that Lukas plays at Daycare...
it's Connect 4! Except he doesn't connect 4 he just puts all the little pieces in the slots. It's more like put the circles in the slots. It's a great hand eye coordination activity for him. It's neat and a little scary how fast he learns something from other kids! He sees another child do something and Bam he knows it. Crazy crazy crazy! My baby is growing too fast!

Ahpatee, Ahpatee, oh Ahpatee!
There is a commercial for these Dell mini's and they are singing the Lollipop song. You know the song..."Lollipop, lollipop, oh lollipop!" Well when Lukas hears this song he bops up and down and starts singing "Ahpatee, ahpatee, oh ahpatee!" It makes us laugh every time! Watching him learn is such a neat experience. Even if you don't know what he is saying at first. It doesn't take too long to figure out what he is trying to communicate.

Children
There is a blog I started reading. http://ryansutter.com/blog/ I stumbled onto it the other day. I used to be a big Bachelorette and Bachelor show watcher. I feel it's gotten sad the last few years so I stopped watching it. Well this gentleman and his wife were on this show. I saw a link on Yahoo that said they had another baby so naturally I googled his name and he has a blog. There is a Parenting entry in his blog that I really liked a lot. He speaks about how he was reading an article that took a poll and 90% of all parents think that children decreased the couples happiness.. He thought that was a little high and I do agree with him. He said in his blog "Anyone who has kids knows that they are hard work. What in life worth a damn isn’t?". I totally agree with his comment. Children are a tremendous amount of work. They depend on you for everything at first, and as they grow you teach them to be their own person it gets better and worse. I feel this with Lukas growing and learning and since he has become a toddler I feel it's even more work. However, when I say work it's a good kind of work. The kind that makes you feel like a million bucks! When you look into your child's eyes and you see how content and happy they are I think their happiness makes you happy too! I think that poll was wrong.

Ouch!
Lukas is learning new words everyday. He copies almost everything I say. Ouch is the new one. If he is getting tickled or I am changing him he is saying "ouch!" to me. I know it doesn't hurt him, but it's actually pretty funny! He has picked up "holy cow", "oh my gosh", "where is it", and "what is it". It seems like he picks up a new word or phrase everyday. His copying things has even got funnier. Daisy our Jack Russell Terrier will cough or grunt for air sometimes when her trecia collapses she will starting making the noise and Lukas will run in. He says "DAISY, oah oah oah and he makes the same noise Daisy does over and over. It's cute. Daisy is ok it's a normal thing for it to happen. No harm.

August is flying by too fast
It seems like we were literally waiting for summer to get here and now it's almost done. Lukas has been really fun this summer. Trying new things and becoming his own little person. He likes to play in the sprinkler, ride on this little bus outside, play with cars, and most of all climb everything. His taste buds have changed too. He isn't as picky as he used to be in the beginning of summer. He will eat anything with noodles in them. Pizza and chicken are some of his favorites and we found out he likes green tea. Watching him grow into his own little person has been a bitter sweet feeling. I am so excited and happy for him when he learns something new or does something new, but at the same time it makes me sad. He is moving further away from that baby stage and it makes me a little sad. I wish I could bottle up those baby moments, because I already miss them. He is a fun little boy to hang out with, and I know it will get even better! The future holds so many possibilities for him. Can't wait to see more "Lukas" as he grows and learns new things.

Teething and more teething
I believe Lukas is teething again. I know this because his drool production has increased and I don't think he is sleeping as soundly at night as he was. The last few days at daycare he eats breakfast and goes right back to sleep for a morning nap. Also the other day he was walking around making a new noise with his mouth. Well now that he has so much extra drool he can make this really cool crazy noise with his mouth. It usually leads to him getting everything wet and I have to change his shirt. It's that much drool! He has one more tooth to get before he starts getting his 1 year old molars. Since he is behind on teething...he might be getting them together. Although...I really hope not!

Lazy days of summer?
I must say since Lukas has been born...there are no per say "lazy" days. They call these last days of summer lazy days. I don't know who came up with that term. When you work full time and are chasing a toddler when you aren't at work there is no "lazy" about it. Of course I would not change it for the world either. I love my baby boy and husband. They keep me happy and busy. Next summer I might not get so involved in summer sports. Between my husband and I we play 3 days a week. Tuesday through Thursday we are on the go either playing softball or kickball. In a few weeks my husband starts Football and in about a month we start volleyball. However at least those are for the fall and winter. Softball and Kickball will be done shortly. Summer seems to be slipping away from us. I can't believe how fast time goes since we have had Lukas. It feels like blinks in time.

Time with Daddy
Today I am at work Daddy and Lukas get to spend time together at home. My husband decided to keep Lukas home today and they will get to have some fun. Lots of playing, munching on food, and probably even getting to go outside. It looks like it's going to be a beautiful day! It's very nice they get to spend the time together...but I wish I was with them! It's important for them to have their time though. What a great Daddy my husband is! I love them both very very much!

Rash, gums hurting, growing pains?
Well I think Lukas is getting ready to cut another tooth. He has had more drool, however you would never know it because he sucks it back in and swallows it. So this makes his diapers loose and then diaper rash is pretty common. Last night he was so cranky. I wasn't sure exactly what was getting to him. It could be the diaper rash (he has a slight rash), or it could be his gums bothering him. I know the last few times he was cutting a tooth he has been grumpy and cranky. However, my daycare lady mentioned today it could be growing pains too. He has been taking 3 naps a day this week instead of his 2, and he still goes to bed at the normal time. So it could be growing pains too. It's hard to know. I guess it's tough to be a baby! Poor little guy! If it is teething and he teethes this hard for small teeth...lord help us when he starts to get molars.

Living in a Hurricane Lukas Home
Now that Lukas is bigger and literally there is nothing he can't get into or climb on our house is messy until he goes to bed at night. We call it hurricane Lukas. When we come home from work and daycare he goes over to the blanket rack and takes every single blanket and throws it on the floor. He will then take the blankets and spread them throughout the house. Once that has been done he moves over to his bigger toys and spreads them throughout the house. Then he dives into the smaller toys in this toy box. He will either dump out his toy box or pick a few toys and then take them into different rooms throughout the house. H will throw some of them in his clothes hamper and if that gets boring he will throw my flip flops down the laundry shoot. By the time he goes to bed at night it takes me 15 minutes just to clean up the house. I don't mind, but boy does it feel like a mess!

New favorite word is NO!
Lukas has started the "no" phase. He says no to everything! If you are trying to change is diaper he is screaming "no!" If you are trying to put him in his highchair he is saying "no" and holding his legs apart. He has even started saying it for us. We will start to tell Lukas not to touch or play with something he shouldn't and we will say "Lukas..." and he will look at us point and then say "NO!" At first it was funny when he did it, and I still find it a little funny at times. However, when he doesn't listen that's when it gets hard and a little frustrating. I am excited for everything he learns and every step he takes to become more independent, but I could do without this NO phase. His cousin says No and Mine so at least he hasn't caught on to the mine yet. That phase is probably yet to come.

Lukas's Happy Place
We all have a happy place! For some it's a good book, cool movie, being in the wilderness, or just sitting and relaxing. My happy place is taking a walk with my two favorite guys in the whole world! Well Lukas's happy place is chocolate pudding! He loves it so much he makes "mmmmaammm" noises and giggles while eating it and he drapes himself in the stuff. I only give him pudding on his bath days. If I know he is going to need a bath then and only then will I feed him pudding! He starts out eating it so politely. He will take his little spoon and dip it in the bowl then take a little bite. Well he will eventually get sick of how long it's taking and throw his spoon. This is when he gets his hands into it and once that happens the mess unfolds from there. He will then take the bowl and drink the pudding! Here are some pictures I took. You can see pudding is one of his happy places by his smile!

Standing and climbing
I have a real monkey on my hands now. He likes to climb on things lately. He has been climbing on top of his little lawn mower and the laundry basket. I will literally turn my head for a minute or two and he is standing on something he shouldn't be. Usually when I notice he is standing on something he shouldn't be I gasp and say "No Lukas, no climbing!" He just smiles and then cries when I take whatever he is climbing on away. The other day I saw he had pushed his little lawn mower up to his toy box and was standing on top of it balancing on it. Now that he is climbing...that just means he has further to fall. Scary! He is going to get hurt...no doubt about it. What a M-O-N-K-E-Y!!!

Mr. Munch-A-Lot
Lukas is definitely a growing boy, but dang I can't believe how much food he can eat at one sitting for how old he is. My husband has been out of town on business so Lukas and I were home by ourselves. My Mom invited us over Tuesday night for supper and we had tuna hotdish. This is one of Lukas's favorites! He had two helpings! I was surprised how much he could devour at one sitting. Then Wednesday night we went over to my mother-in-law's for dinner. We had spaghetti and Lukas loved that too! He had two helpings of that! I can't believe how much food he can eat. It's like he got a taste of big people food and now he eats like a mad man! The spaghetti was pretty messy, but it made a great dinner it filled him up and it turned him orange all over. It was a great memory. As much as he enjoyed spaghetti we probably won't have it often, it was way too much work to clean him up! Maybe we will stick with the tuna hotdish. He doesn't turn colors from that dinner!

Camping
We took Lukas on his first camping trip this last weekend! He totally loved it! We got to the campground around 2:30pm and started getting our site all set up. We were tenting it so it was interesting. While we were setting things up he chowed some watermelon and then after we got all set up done we took him down to the water to cool down. He sat in the water, and splashed around in it for a little bit. The water landing for tubing the river was right behind our campsite so it was nice to run down there to cool off occasionally. My husband got to fish a little bit, but with people coming out of the water there it didn't work out the best. We made some hot dogs on the fire for supper and went on a few walks with Lukas. He played at our campsite with his little lawnmower and his outside beach toys. There was a small hill behind our campsite and he would run down the hill and come back up and run back down, over and over and over. My husband played with him a little and he would trip and fling himself into Daddy's arms. He didn't fuss or fight at all the whole day. Bedtime was pretty easy too. My husband made a fire and we relaxed by the fire and then went and put him down for bed in the tent. He grumbled and complained in the tent for about 10 minutes, and then he fell asleep in his pack n play. We got to enjoy the fire for a little bit and then went to bed. Lukas slept great, but we didn't. The ground was just too hard. When Lukas woke up we fed him some breakfast and packed everything up to go home. All in all I think it was a successful camping trip. We learned a little and enjoyed each other a lot. I feel confident saying Lukas had a fabulous time!

Hot summer days
We have been pushed completely into summer since a week or two ago. Our normal high temperature was in the mid 70's and now all of a sudden it's 85-90 degrees along with humidity. I should have known that weather would kick in for the 4th of July coming up. Well along with the hot weather we have started introducing Lukas to water activities. Last Thursday we set up a sprinkler in our front yard and he had a pretty good time with that. He wouldn't go in by himself at first, but he was curious enough to go check it out with Daddy of course. Last night I set up his froggy pool and he wasn't sure about it. He would step one foot in the pool and then take it back out immediately. He liked the little sprinkler part on the front it has though. It's neat to see him experiencing with water and getting him used to it. More summer fun to follow!

Independent Eating
My baby is not wanting me to feed him as much as he used to. He is eating on his own really good lately. You put his dish with food in front of him and if you try to help him he freaks out. So you just sit there and watch the mess unfold. He is getting much better at using a spoon and fork. It's still messy, but most of the bites make it into his mouth. After he is done eating this is when he flips over his dish and plays with his food. It's interesting and extremely messy, but good times!

Lukas's First Tornado
Living in the Midwest means lots of thunderstorms and possible tornados. They all don't make tornados just the possibility to have one during a storm. Well my husband was gone on business last week and Lukas and I had to wait out a storm that produced some tornados. Here is the little story:
The weather was making me a little nervous, but I thought as it always does that it will just pass quickly. I got Lukas in the bath and I got him all washed up. I sat there and let Lukas play in the tub for a little bit, but then the tornado warning sirens went off. So I grabbed him wrapped him in a towel and grabbed his pajamas and we went downstairs. I got him all dressed and we played downstairs while the sirens went off. After the sirens stopped we went back upstairs. I looked out the window to our front yard and the sky was an awkward dark orange, so I went to the other end of the house to look out our backyard and it was dark. It was the darkest I have seen the sky in a long time. I thought 'oh great.' I decided to call my Mom and we sat and talked about the weather a little bit. Our local weather was playing some live footage of the storm and what looked to be a funnel cloud. We both just sat there watching the TV. During this Lukas just played with his lawn mower and mowed our carpet. He was happy through it all. Well just then the sirens went off again. My Mom was saying on the phone that a tornado had touched down just a few miles from our house. I told her OK we were going to head back downstairs. Just as all this was happening we lost our power and it started raining really hard. So Lukas and I were back in the basement. He looked at me smiled and said "daddy", I laughed a little and said "nope not daddy buddy." I lit some candles so we could see in the basement. Once the sirens stopped we decided to go over to my Mom's place since we were all by ourselves and had no power. Well she didn't have power either. Just as I got there another siren went off and it started to rain again. That was the last siren for the night thank goodness. We were stuck without power until morning. During this whole ordeal Lukas was our comedy relief. His sense of humor was coming out and making us smile while we were all scared. My husband finally got a hold of me on my cell phone to check on us. He was relieved to hear we were all right too. That was Lukas's first tornado. I think he enjoyed playing downstairs in the dark. What a silly little boy!

No more rain!
We are experiencing the most wet and cold beginning of summer in our area since I cannot remember. It is frustrating because Lukas loves to be outside and with it raining everyday we aren't getting outside at all. He kept pointing to the windows last night and I know he wanted outside, but it was super icky out. No more rain please! Or at least a break for lets say at least 4 to 5 days would be nice!

Losing things
Last night there were two times I was searching all over the house for a few things and I could not find them. Lukas has become obsessed with throwing things in his clothes hamper. If I can't find his wipes or desitin I just look in his clothes hamper and surprise...there they are! He has also started making a mad dash for the bathroom when he hears the bathroom door open. My husband left the bathroom door open last night and I heard Lukas running for the bathroom. I got there just in time for me to see him getting ready to lift the lid of the toilet and throw his sippy cup in. I stopped the act thank goodness! He also loves putting his hands, toys, and his feet in the dogs water dish. He is drawn to it. Needless to say...I believe more baby proofing may be in order. It's getting to be a challenge keeping him out of things these days!

Ready for fun
Lukas got to hang out with Grandma Mireau last night. She watches him every Tuesday for us because we play softball. They got to finally go outside! They went for a walk, and visited my Mom's friend and her little girl. Her name is Grace and they call her Gracie. Gracie and Lukas played so well together! I was told she kept digging all her toys out of her toy box and giving them to Lukas to play with. I wish I could have seen it, that would have been cute! I am glad Lukas finally got to be outside. He loves outside so much! This morning he cried when I took his shoes off at daycare, because he wanted to go outside. Poor little guy. However, the daycare lady said she was going to take all the kids on a walk after breakfast. So that will be some outside time he can enjoy!

Waiting on the sunshine
This weekend was a very very rainy weekend. Lukas would look at me and point to the window or the door and say "pishh". Which means outside or something like that. He would smile and play with his shoes. I felt bad because it was just too rainy for us to be outside. He has turned into one little outdoors guy! When he is outside all is well in the world. He has also started running, which has led to many scrapes and bruises. He even skinned up his nose pretty good a few weekends back. Minnesota weather is so very unpredictable, I am hoping some warm weather comes soon and that we won't be stuck in the house every weekend. ***Praying for some sunshine!***

Time...
Time is really getting away from me lately. Things have been so busy with the start up of summer stuff like softball, kickball, and getting out of the house like grill outs and stuff. I can see why people always say to cherish the time you have. When I think back to last summer...it was so stressful and rewarding. Bringing home our new baby, not sleeping, and learning how to be a parent. Last summer feels like eons ago, but it was just 1 year ago. I am grateful for my healthy baby boy and all the fun memories and great times he has brought us. I just feel like time is getting away from me. I must try my hardest to slow down and cherish this summer, because next year will be completely different. Just like this summer will be way different than last summer. Plenty of good times to come...I just want to freeze time and hug and kiss my little guy. I feel it's going too fast already.

Picky eating...
It seems like over night Lukas has become a picky eater. I brought it up at his doctor appointment on Monday, but she told me that is normal in toddlers. I was surprised. I wasn't aware that toddlers were so picky about what they wanted to eat. He will only eat his baby cereal or baby food sometimes lately or some new foods he will love and hate the next day. Supper has become a challenge. I make him cereal and get some baby veggies and fruit out, but I have started trying to add in some of the Gerber Graduates food choices. He loves those little crunchies...he will eat those anytime. He also loves bread. He loves toast too. Lukas is pretty much a carb lover all ready! The doctor told me he is wide open to try new things now that he is 12 months old, but he wants nothing to do with lots of the food. It can get frustrating, but I guess we just keep offering things up to him and show him we eat this stuff too. After time maybe he will come around and like more things...or I can pray he does anyway!

Birthday Fun!!!
Lukas is now 1 year old!!! His birthday party was the 16th (this last Saturday) and it was so much fun! He took all his naps great that day and he was in an awesome mood for his party. We all ate sloppy joes, meatballs, jello salad, potato salad, and macaroni salad. Then afterward I had made a dinosaur birthday cake and dinosaur cupcakes for all the guests, but for Lukas...he got his own cake! I made a yellow cake with purple and blue polka dots and he enjoyed the frosting way too much! He kept grabbing the dots and eating them and then he finally tried the cake. After cake and ice cream we all went into the living room and opened presents. Fun, fun, fun!!! Lukas got a bunch of great gifts and summer clothes! I just want to thank everyone for being part of his big day and for celebrating my sweet boy! His first birthday was one of the best days of my life!

Caught of Guard
I am so excited for Lukas to turn 1 tomorrow! So totally awesome!!! I am very proud of my little boy and I now know what parents think and feel when they just have so much love they want to burst! I am more excited for his birthday than I have been for anyone's birthday...even my own. We are going to have a dinosaur birthday party for his first birthday. It will be so fun!!! However with all this building excitement I have been a little sad too. My little boy is growing and getting older and I miss him being my little baby that just wanted to be held and cuddled. Those times go way too fast! Don't get me wrong he still wants to be hugged and cuddled, but it's different when they can get up and move away from you. Today at work I got my regular Friday email on Lukas's status for the week. They always sent me 'Your Baby This Week' emails from babycenter.com, but today when I got the email it said 'Your Toddler This Week.' I saw that email and stared at it, when I finally decided to open it I just started crying. I was crying because my baby is getting older and it went way too fast. He is still my baby and he always will be, but I think your children growing up is a bitter sweet realization. So proud and happy for him, and yet sad he is already 1 year old. What a conflicted feeling!

Dog's Water Dish
Lukas has found a brand new toy. The dog's water dish! He loves to put his hands, toys, and anything he gets his little hands on in it. We do tell him "no" and "acky" but he is starting to tune us out. So when he reaches for it lately I clap my hands or snap my fingers, and once he looks at me he pretends he was doing something else. He thinks he is sneaky, but I know and saw what he was going to do! The other night I was getting ready for bed and cleaning up all his toys. I saw that he put my slipper in the dog's water dish. It made me laugh, but I didn't have any slippers to wear. He is such a little stinker! He makes me laugh, kids are so funny! I love being a mommy!

Kaydence's birthday party
Lukas went to his first birthday party. Our friends had their little girl a few weeks before we had Lukas. She turned 1 last week so her birthday party was Saturday. Lukas had so much fun! There were 7 other babies there and he played with all of them just great. We got to eat some munchy things and Lukas loved the meatballs. Those were his favorite. We got to watch Kaydence cover herself in cake, it was so cute! She was pink all over her arms, face, and belly. Lukas was begging for cake from me the whole time she was eating hers. He miss stepped and bonked his head on the corner of the wall. Poor little guy. We played outside, with other babies, and with bubbles. All in all it was a very fun party! It was actually pretty relaxing too...which surprised me. Can't wait for his party!

More Busy
Well with Spring and all the Summer sports starting it's getting really busy lately. We start softball and kickball next week. That will be 3 days out of the week that will be just way too busy. It will all be fun though! Lukas will come out and hang out with the Grandma's or if it's icky out he will stay with one of them. It's also starting to get nicer and nicer out, so I must get him some clothes soon for summer. He has a few outfits, but I know he will need more than that.

Hot out
The last few days have been "hot" out for spring time anyway. We were outside playing with Lukas and his little cheeks were turning red. Once we brought him inside I noticed he was sweating really bad. He had shoes, socks, long pants, onsie, a t-shirt, and a jacket on. It was 85 degrees outside too. When I noticed how warm he was I took off his shoes, shocks, and coat. Then after awhile I noticed he was still warm so I took off his t-shirt. He was so cute running around in a onsie and pants. I love his little bare feet! Baby feet are so cute! I realized now that it's getting warmer out I will have to pay attention to the weather better. I don't want him to overheat...yet I don't want him to get too cold either. Layers will be key this spring!

Little walking tornado
On Monday we went to the doctor to have Lukas's ears checked for ear infection. You would never know the kid was sick. Since he has learned how to walk he is a busy body. He zooms here and there...literally all over. Well after the nurse got done checking him we were sitting in the room waiting for the doctor. Lukas was all over the room. He wanted to throw his shoes in the garbage, and then he wanted the garbage. He dug all his toys out of the diaper bag, grabbed the paper from the table and pulled it so it's hanging on the floor, went over the book basket and dug out every single book from it, and finally decided a little cabinet he found under the examining table was fun. We waited for the doctor for literally 8 minutes. When she walked in she smiled and said "what a little busy body!" He can demolish a room in no time flat! He is my little walking tornado. Now I understand why they are so much more work once they start walking!

Funny man
The last few nights I have given Lukas Motrin before bedtime. This is supposed to be a little stronger than Tylenol and last longer. He did sleep pretty good, but he was so funny before bedtime when I gave him the medicine. He was leaning on me and laughing. Pressing his cheek to my face and giggling. My baby was so funny! I was glad the Motrin took away his pain for the time being, but I really hate giving him medicine. I can't wait until these teeth are finally all in! :) We have a long ways to go though. He only has 2 so far!

My poor little man...
Lukas has now caught a cold again. His teething last week and this weekend has caused him to fall behind on his rest. Usually when this happens he gets and cold and ear infection. I am praying he doesn't have one, and that it's just a little cold. We will have to get him off to the doctor to make sure though. I am thinking those top two teeth are trying to come through. Ouch!

Busy busy...
Between birthdays, Easter, and appointments...I have not had time to post. Lukas is also busy busy! He walks all over and we have even taken him on a few walks outside. He stops what he is doing and points to a car going by. Cars amaze him and I think that is neat he is taking notice of something so big and neat around him. Will post more when I get some time!

Cruising Wal-Mart
Our family has a lot of birthdays in April. Lukas, my Mom, my little brother Eddie, and I all went to Wal-Mart to get birthday cards and some small gifts. Lukas was getting very restless in the cart. He kept putting his little hands out to me and making grunting noises. I know what he wanted...he wanted out. However, he can get heavy after carrying him for a long period of time. He did this almost the whole shopping trip. I finally took him out and then he kept trying to nose dive off me. He didn't want to be held...he wanted to walk around. So after awhile I got sick of him squirming and trying to get down. I let him down and he was walking in Wal-Mart. My Mom and I were each on a side of him holding onto his hands. After awhile he didn't want to even hold hands anymore. He just wanted to cruise all by himself. He did really well, since he never walks in his shoes. I was very surprised. It made me feel happy, but sad at the same time. I was happy because he was doing so well and walking like a little pro. I was sad because his actual babyness is fading fast. He is turning into a toddler...way too fast for me. I already miss him being a little baby in my arms. However, him interacting with us and learning new things is cool too! It's bitter sweet!

Playing
Lukas is all about play time. We have such a blast doing fun things together. He will sometimes hide behind me and I turn around fast and say "I see you!" Just just bursts out laughing! He also loves to shut the door to his room when I chase him. He then sits there and makes noises and puts his hands under the door. I do the same back to him and you can hear him just screaming and laughing...it's hilarious! One of his new favorite things is to ride piggy back. We will put him on our backs and giddy up around the house and he just loves it! Playing with Lukas really brings out the kid in myself. It's too bad some people in life never get to feel this kind of fun and enjoyment. Playing and reading with your child are a few of the best things about being a parent.

My heart is going to burst
I feel so much love for Lukas, and pride as he learns new things. He just brings so much happiness to me! I never knew I could feel this amount of happiness and love for one person. Lately he will grab and hug with all he has and it just makes you melt! Sooo awesome!

Communicating
Lukas has started to let us know if he doesn't want something or if we guess wrong on what he wants. If he is already full and we try to feed him more he will shake his head and sometimes say "huht uh". It's very cute, but can be frustrating when you want him to eat or stay away from something. For instance, we were in the kitchen yesterday morning while I was washing his bottles. He was playing on the floor with a pot and spoon. He decided that wasn't going to cut it so he crawled over to the dog food. I said "acky Lukas, no no." He looked at me and shook his head and said "huht uh". I laughed and said "what did you say to me?" He just sat there smiling at me. I couldn't believe he was disagreeing with me. I said "oh yes it's acky!" I then removed the dog food from his reach. Out of sight out of mind...right? Nope he got up and tried reaching his little hand on the table. I was just amazed he was still going for it. Now that is determination, my funny little guy!

Shake it shake it
Lukas was playing in his crib the other night before I gave him a bath. He was turning on his little fishy aquarium on his crib and then holding onto the rail and shaking back and forth. I think he was trying to dance. It was so cute! He happy squealed and would shake back and forth! I then started singing "shake it baby shake it!" He just smiled and laughed at me. Good times!!!

Another cold, more antibiotics
Lukas caught another cold, and he is teething. I think the combo gave him another ear infection. At least this time it was just an ear infection and not a double ear infection. Hopefully we caught it early enough to get rid of it really well! I guess time will tell though. My poor little guy spring and teething are not being so nice to him!

Walking! and another Tooth!
This weekend was so busy! Lukas was on and off crabby all weekend, and Saturday night we were up with him from 2am to 4:30am. He had popped another tooth! So he now has 2 teeth! He also started walking Thursday and he got better and better at this weekend! He is walking so good! Sometimes he looks like he is going to fall, but he stops himself and gets steadied. He will start clapping his hands while he is walking, because he is so happy! It's darn cute!!! So, I now have a baby that has two teeth...he isn't my gummy bear anymore and he is truly mobile! Crawling was mobile, but walking puts him higher so he can get into more things! This summer will be so fun!

Yay a tooth!
Lukas finally cut a tooth yesterday!!! It's the right (his left) bottom tooth. You can see it a little, but you can really feel it! Jessie our daycare lady called yesterday to tell me Lukas was having an off day. She was concerned that he had another ear infection. I was wondering if I should call the doctor. I told her I will see how he acts in the evening, and if I think I need to take him I will schedule him for something the next day. Well then she called me later in the afternoon and told me the great news! He had cut a tooth, and that is why he wasn't eating very good and super crabby! The feeling I got was relief and pride! I cried because I was so happy!!! Bring on the teeth!!! Woohooo! I am so excited for him, my little boy is getting so big!

Bunches of steps in the kitchen!
Yesterday after we got home from work my husband and I were starving! So we hung out in the kitchen and had a snack. Instead of placing Lukas in his highchair we decided to let him explore since we were in there. He stood up and walked around my husband getting a little bit of cottage cheese here and there. After awhile he got sick of that and decided to explore. He turned away from my husband and walked in the kitchen! He took 6 or 7 steps on the kitchen floor before tumbling down. We both sat there and watching him in awe of his braveness! I was video taping him getting a snack from Daddy and got it all on tape too! We were so proud of him! It's just a matter of time now and then he will be walking all over.

First weekend away
This last weekend was my first weekend away from Lukas. My husband and I went to a volleyball tournament so we were gone Friday-Sunday. I was surprised how well I did. I knew he was going to be fine, but I was more worried about me missing him. Well Friday night went well, but by Saturday morning I was missing him really bad. I felt like my arms were empty and I just needed his smile and hugs. I called my Mom's to "talk" to him a lot that day though. When I say talk I basically talked and I listened to him breathe. Saturday night I missed him the most. I just wanted to be home with him. I thought I was going to cry a few times, but I didn't. I did a good job! Sunday we couldn't get home soon enough. I got changed and everything packed and I couldn't wait to get home to him. When I went to pick him up he was all smiles and he grabbed me and hugged me! Nothing feels better than a hug and smile from your baby! It was a good weekend, but I am glad to be home. I took Monday off to spend some time with him and catch up on laundry. He was glued to me all day long Monday. He didn't like it if I left the room or if I was not down on the floor with him. Guess that is just part of coming home!

Nope...no ear infection.
I took Lukas to the doctor yesterday, because I wanted them to look at him and see if he did in fact need the antibiotic they prescribed. Well as it turns out his ears looked good. One hear had a small little spot, but they thought that might be because it was going away. I was so relieved that I didn't have to give him another antibiotic. I do know it probably wouldn't have hurt to have him on the antibiotic, but I didn't want to medicate him if he didn't need it. Everything is on the up and up and I think his teething is causing him to poke his ear now. If he develops another cold, then he could potentially get another ear infection. Especially since he is teething. I am hoping to keep him healthy though. I just gotta try to make sure he gets his sleep and he eats well. As well as keep him away from sick people. It's not like I want to place him in a bubble or anything, I am just trying to take action so he might not get another ear infection!

Still ear infection?
Last week I had to call and ask for the remainder of Lukas's prescription for his antibiotic. They filled it no problem. When I talked to them last week they also said to call and give them an update on Lukas after he was done with the antibiotic. Well I called them and told them how Lukas was doing. I said the cold was gone and he was doing much better. He is still poking his ear and playing with his ear from time to time, but he is sleeping, eating, and his mood are good. They said they would talk to the doctor and see if she wanted to see him. Well after about an hour they called me back and said that she prescribed him a new antibiotic. I just listened and said ok. Well as the day went on I was not comfortable just picking up this antibiotic and treating Lukas if he didn't need it. I mean I know he is still poking at his ear, but it could be teething too. He has played with his ears since he was about 5-6 months old. I decided to call the doctor back and see if they could see him today instead. I would like to know for sure that he needs that antibiotic instead of just treat him without knowing. I have been reading on the web that doctors over prescribe antibiotics, and I think it would be best just to make sure he really needs it. If we go there today and they take a look and tell me he should continue the antibiotic...I will. If they see he is ok...then he doesn't need it. :)

Antibiotics
Lukas has been on an antibiotic since last Friday. I am not sure if it's working or not though. He is still pulling on his ears and he cries like he is in pain at times. I do know this could be teething though. It causes some of the same symptoms. Also he is almost out of his antibiotic. They told me to give it to him for 10 days and I am thinking tomorrow morning it will be gone. Which is only 8 days it lasted. So, I called them to see what I should do. They have yet to get back to me. I do know that immunity to antibiotics are becoming more common. I am hoping he isn't in that boat anyway. It's weird how I have never had an antibiotic until I was 23 years old and by baby has already had one at 9 almost 10 months old. Crazy! What has changed over the course of time, the quality of our environment maybe? Not sure.

You bit me!
Last night Lukas and I were playing on the floor and his teething has kicked back in lately. He crawled over to me and I thought he was going to give me a kiss. Nope! He bit my cheek! It surprised me and I pulled back and said "Lukas, you bit me!" He just giggled and tried to do it again. I couldn't help but laugh it was funny how he was coming at me. I then firmed up and said "No Lukas, no biting" then he giggled and hugged me. I know he is teething, because it wasn't just me he was biting. He was biting everything. His toys, hands, blanket, and the couch. Pretty much anything he could get his hands on. Except the teething rings we got him. Why would he chew on those! It would make too much sense. Well maybe this time he will actually cut a tooth. He is still toothless and he turns 10 months old next Monday!

Double Ear Infection
Friday I decided to finally take Lukas to the doctor after a week of this dang cold that would not go away. Lukas had a cough and his whole body would be used to cough, it wasn't just a little throat cough. Since the cough wasn't getting any better after a week I took him in. I was feeling a little foolish taking him in, because he was a bundle of happiness and hyper activity in the waiting and the exam room. He seemed perfectly content and happy. When the doctor looked at him she said that cough was most likely a viral cold and we have to let that run it's course. However, she said when they have viral colds that last a little longer sometimes the ears can get a bacterial infection which is an ear infection. She took a look at his ears and sure enough both ears had infections. He had a double ear infection. She told me it was great that I brought him in. They gave me a prescription for amoxicillin (antibiotic) and told me he has to take that 2 times a day for ten days. He started his medicine Friday evening, and by Sunday evening I think his ears were starting to do a little better. I didn't even need to give him baby Tylenol for bedtime. Looking back I am glad I tried to let his body fight it off, but the instinct to finally take him in just to make sure nothing is wrong was a right move. That just proves that you have to go with your gut feelings. Instinct is that important.

Comfy Seat!
Last night we went shopping, because Lukas needed a new car seat. Very badly too! When we would put him in his infant car seat, his head would touch the shade thingy and his feet stuck out too. That car seat also makes him lay down and he hates laying down. So we decided it was time to get him a new one. We did some window shopping at first and K-Mart had the best price for the car seat we wanted. Then when we got home and we had to decide if he should face forward or rear. The general rule of thumb is 20 lbs or 1 years old. Well we decided to face him forward. He is 22 lbs and almost 10 months old, so we felt it was time. So last night we got it all installed in the car and then this morning he got to ride in it for the first time. He loved it! He crossed his feet (like he always does) and sat playing with his hands. He would ramble off some baby babble from time to time, but he just loved it. He looks so much more grown up in the big boy car seat. My heart cried a little. I feel like he is getting big too fast. From what I hear it just gets faster and faster.

Getting better
Well Lukas's cold isn't completely gone yet, but it's getting closer I think. He still has his cough, but he is eating better and his mood is up. Last night he was full of it. He was "running" up and down holding onto the couch while I just sat there laughing and saying "I'm gonna get you!" He would squeal with delight and run away and then run back. It was so funny. We got some of it on video camera even! It's nice to see his mood levels back up and in the happy mode. I missed my silly little boy when he was sick.

Baby Vicks
Last night we tried some baby vicks. I remember my Mom using vicks on me when I was little, I always loved the way it helped me breathe so much better when I was sick. However, I do remember it being messy. Well last night when I went and put some on Lukas it was still messy. I put it on his onsie underneath his pajamas. With some of his skin sensitivity issues I was a little worried about putting it directly on him. Well I think the vicks seemed to help with breathing or at least busting up his chesty cough a little. Heck when I was rocking him with his bottle even I was starting to breathe better. I know the baby version is toned down, but it still smelt strong to me!

My sick baby
Lukas has his first "actual" cold. He has the chest cough, really runny nose, sneezing, and the saddest little eyes. He does work through it though and try to make the best out of not feeling good. Sometimes he just doesn't care and only wants to sit on your lap and cuddle. While I do love all the cuddling and rocking, I would much rather have him feeling good and about. Last night before bed he was a little back to himself and he even slept really well too. However, this morning he was back to the tough cough and sneezing. I felt so bad when he would sneeze, because the boogies would just fly right out. I am praying he gets rest while at daycare today. He wasn't running a fever so I did take him to daycare. While a little rest and some luck we will whip this cold! If he gets worse I will probably leave early to go get him.
